Welcome

Mohair de Péhart is a small-holding in Brittany, France.

We specialise in Angora Goats and the production of high quality Mohair fleece.

Mohair

Angora goats produce a thick, heavy fleece: mohair.

Mohair is stronger than sheep's wool, yet lighter. It is a superb insulator, very strong (stretch and crease resistant), moisture resistant and flame resistant.

The Angora goat is the oldest domesticated animals (some 9,000 years ago). The goat's origins lie in the Tibetan Himalayan Mountains, although the name Angora originates from the region Ankara in Turkey.

Mohair is derived from the Arabic word mukhayyar for goat's-hair cloth: from the root word mukhaya, "to prefer." This is the term used in the Old Testament when God commanded Moses to furnish the tabernacle (Exodus 25.4; 35.26).

The Angora goat was introduced to Europe in the sixteenth century by King Charles V.

At Mohair-de-Pehart we endeavour throughout the year to produce high quality mohair fleeces, through careful breeding and general welfare of our Angora goats.

Our goats are sheared twice a year (March and September).
